This painting features a black&White English springer spaniel. The backdrop is a valley called Pondon Kirk that leads onto Howarth Moor, an area that provided the setting for Wuthering Heights. The moor is an excellent habitat for game birds, especially grouse, and the surrounding valleys provide the type of rough shooting at which springer spaniels excel.
