Morning light Wycoller

9" x 12" Signed Limited Edition of 450.
Haworth and surrounding areas provide inspiration for Townsend. The history combined with the natural beauty of the area are captured in this painting. It can be paired with 'Wuthering Heights' This unusual view of the much loved Pack-horse bridge, Wycoller, was an ideal subject for Townsend to paint. Seen here in the early morning light, the suns rays creeping into the valley, chasing away the Autumn mist, the delicate hues and intricate detail of the stone-work have been exquisitely captured by the artist in astonishing detail.

The bridge itself has withstood the forces of nature since the 13thC,while Wycoller Hall itself is now nothing more than a romantic ruin.

Built in the 16th century by the Hartley family and subsequently extended in the 18th by Squire Henry Owen Cunliffe as part of his campaign to attract a wealthy wife,Henry died in 1818, penniless, and leaving many debts
Down through the years, the Hall has enchanted Artist and Poets alike and would have been known to Charlotte Bronte.
Charlotte visited Wycoller many times and the old Hall is believed to be “Ferndean Manor”, the home of Mr Rochester, in her novel “Jane Eyre”.
